St. John's Softball Hosts BIG EAST Rival Villanova

ST. JOHN'S HOSTS VILLANOVA IN THURSDAY DOUBLEHEADER
• The St. John's softball team will host Villanova on Thursday, April 13 at 1 p.m. The two teams were orginally scheduled to meet last Saturday, April 8 but the games were rained out. Thursday's weather looks more hopeful as local forecasts are calling for morning rainshowers to give way to sunny skies and a high of 70.
• Villanova will be searching for its first BIG EAST win of the season when it takes Red Storm Field. The last time the two teams met was on Villanova's home turf where the Wildcats defeated the Red Storm twice, 3-5 and 1-2 (8). Villanova holds a 26-17 lead in the all-time series. St. John's Splits A Pair Of Games Against BIG EAST Foe Rutgers • The St. John's softball team split its game with BIG EAST rival Rutgers on Sunday afternoon, taking the first game 5-1 and dropping the second 7-3.
• Tami Hill and Megan Oliver led the Red Storm, going 4-for-7 at the plate. The duo combined for three extra-base hits and three RBI.
• In the circle, Lisa Geer tossed a complete seven innings in game one and earned her eighth win of the season. She struck out nine, inlcuding the final three batters she faced and put the down the side in order over the third, fourth and fifth innings.
• Game one was also highlighted by Lauren Lupinetti's eigth home run of the season.
Lisa Geer MAKES BIG EAST HONOR ROLL
• St. John's softball pitcher Lisa Geer landed on the BIG EAST's weekly honor roll just two weeks after earning Pitcher of the Week accolades.
• She pitched a complete game against conference foe Rutgers on Sunday, April 9, recording her eighth win of the season in style as the Red Storm defeated the Scarlet Knights 5-1.
• She allowed only one run off of four hits and walked none. Geer fanned nine over seven innings, including the last three batters she faced. During the third, fourth and fifth innings, she retired the side in order.
SCOUTING VILLANOVA
• Most recently, the Villanova Wildcats split its non-conference home games with Penn. The Wildcats took the first game by a final score of 6-2 before falling 9-8 in the nightcap.
• Game one featured a five-run inning in the bottom of the third with four straight Villanova singles. The last two were run-scoring hits by junior Sheri Donley and freshman Meghan Morese. Greta Holmgren came up big in the next inning when she drilled her fourth home run of the season well over the fence in left field.
• The second game saw the Wildcats squander an 8-3 lead in the top of the seventh inning.
• Morese leads the team with a .333 batting average, 37 hits, 22 RBI, 11 doubles, six home runs and .595 slugging percentage. Kat Walsh leads the pitching staff with four wins on the season and a 3.18 ERA. She has struck out 105 over 114.1 innings.
• Villanova sits at last place in the BIG EAST and has yet to come up with its first win of the conference season. The Wildcats faced 10th place Seton Hall During its last BIG EAST match up, and dropped both games, 4-2 and 10-6.
• Morese's 11 doubles is third best in the BIG EAST.
