Game-Winning Goal Against Providence Featured On ESPN Motion Video

Freshman Joel Gustafsson's game-winning goal against Providence on Sunday has been featured on ESPN SoccerNet's Motion video. Gustafsson headed a corner kick by Ryan Soroka high and just under the crossbar in the first overtime period to give St. John's a 1-0 victory over the Friars. ESPNU televised the contest to a national audience, and the ESPN Motion video featured commentary from analysts Glenn Davis and Marcelo Balboa.

For the game-winner as well as his work in a pair of St. John's shutouts, Gustafsson was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week and was part of TopDrawerSoccer.com's National Team of the Week. The freshman got in the scoring column on his first career shot and became the fifth different player to score a game-winning goal for the Red Storm this season.
The Red Storm is back in action on Saturday, Sept. 23 when it travels to Louisville for a 7 p.m. contest against the Cardinals. St. John's then returns to Belson Stadium for two more key BIG EAST Red Division contests against Syracuse (Sept. 27) and Cincinnati (Sept. 30).
