Softball Picked To Finish Eighth In BIG EAST Preseason Poll

The St. John???s softball team was picked to finish eighth in the 2007 BIG EAST Preseason poll, voted on by the league???s head coaches. Louisville was predicted to win the conference title this season, while USF and Notre Dame rounded out the top three.Ă‚
???It???s nice to see that people have us making it to the tournament this season but what matters is not on paper in January, its in between the white lines in March, April and May,??? said head coach Amy Kvilhaug. ???Obviously there is a lot of room to surprise people this season and once we get to the BIG EAST tournament, we plan on making a run in it.???
The Red Storm made its first BIG EAST tournament appearance in more than a decade last season, clinching the eighth spot in the league.Ă‚ St. John???s faced off against Louisville in the first round, taking a 2-0 lead after the first two innings.Ă‚ Ultimately, the Cardinals bounced back and ended the Red Storm???s season with an 8-2 victory.
St. John???s finished its 2006 campaign with a 27-30 record, 8-14 in the BIG EAST. The 2007 schedule has the Red Storm playing host to eight of the 12 teams in the conference, including USF and Louisville in the final weekend of the season, May 5-6. The Red Storm will open league play on the road at Notre Dame on March 24.Ă‚
The 2007 BIG EAST Championship will once again be held in South Bend, Ind., on May 1-12. Eight of the league???s 12 teams will advance to the tournament.Ă‚
