Leszczynska Named BIG EAST Volleyball Player Of The Week

QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's volleyball setter Wioleta Leszczynska was named this week's BIG EAST Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. This is the senior's first player of the week honor and it comes on the heels of Red Storm home victories over Pittsburgh and West Virginia this past weekend.
The Bielsko-Biala, Poland native recorded a double-double in Saturday's match against Pittsburgh, a 3-1 Red Storm victory. She tallied an astonishing match-high 63 assists along with 13 digs. In that same match, she contributed eight kills and eight total blocks, coming two shy in both categories of recording a quadruple-double for the match. On Sunday, she led both teams again with 45 assists, and contributed six kills on 12 attempts for a .500 hitting percentage. She also had five digs and four total blocks. Overall for the week, she had a .444 hitting percentage as well as 15.43 assists per game, and five service aces.
Leszczynska currently leads the Red Storm and all BIG EAST players with 955 assists and 13.84 assists per game. In conference matches only, she ranks first with 14.85 assists per game and is tied for fifth with 0.46 service aces per game. Through games played on September 23, Leszczynska ranked fifth in the nation with 13.66 assists per game.
Leszczynska and the Red Storm takes its 10-match winning streak to the road this weekend with BIG EAST matches against Louisville and Cincinnati. The team will take on the Cardinals on Saturday and the Bearcats on Sunday. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
