Red Storm took all four sets in competitive match
WEST POINT, N.Y.– The St. John's volleyball team opened its spring slate with a victory at Army on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Storm and Black Knights played four competitive sets, with the Johnnies taking all four stanzas. The set scores were 25-18, 25-22, 25-19 and 25-23.
"Going undefeated in our first spring match is a tribute to the hard work this group continues to put in to learning and becoming an expert in their craft," said Head Coach Joanne Persico.
St. John's had several new faces on the court, featuring Lejli Hadziredzepovic, Teodora Stamenkovic and Brooke Boyles. The trio of Johnnies each fired at least four kills, while Barbara Costa dos Santos was efficient on the pin, notching 11 kills.
The reigning BIG EAST Libero of the Year, Rashanny Solano Smith anchored the defense. Stamenkovic registered a team-high 3.5 blocks and Kendall White also rejected 1.5 shots. Shiloh Clayton also had a strong match, serving as the defensive specialist.
On the service line, Martina Capponcelli, Chloe Bell, Solano Smith and Hadziredzepovic all recorded a service ace. Bell led the way with two.
St. John's will prepare for its next spring match on March 28 at Stony Brook. First serve against the Seawolves is set for 12 p.m.
