QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's Teams for Teams program hopes to set a home attendance record at Belson Stadium on Wednesday October 24, when the Red Storm takes on the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers. Student-athletes from all of St. John's other sixteen division I teams will be attending the nationally televised game on ESPNU.
Teams for Teams is a program sponsored by Student Development for Athletes which supports all of St. John's athletic teams and encourages all student-athletes to support each other by attending all home competitions, especially those designated as "Teams for Teams." Members of the SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee) staff the Teams for Teams table, tracking attendance and distributing t-shirts to all students who participate in the program.
"Teams for Teams is excellent for the athletic community because, as an athlete, it is motivating to see your peers supporting and encouraging you in your sport," said junior lacrosse player Dom DeNapoli.
"I think that this is a great addition to the Storm Tracker because it motivates other athletes to attend home competitions," said senior lacrosse player Tom Michaelsen. "Seeing other athletes in the stands truly makes you want to give 110% while competing."
Teams for Teams is part of a larger StormTracker Competition - an opportunity for student-athletes to enhance their life skills through competition amongst each other. The competition focuses on 7 major components: academic achievement, leadership, personal development, career development, community service, athletic excellence, and teams for teams. Each athletic team has a chance to collect points, individually and collectively, in each category. The team collecting the most points at the end of the academic year wins the StormTracker Championship.
The next Teams for Teams event will be held on October 26, when the women's soccer team takes on UConn at Belson stadium.
