The St. John???s softball team has four freshmen on its 2007 squad. As a rookie, there is a lot to learn, a lot to experience and a lot of firsts. Ona Halladay, Brandy Reyes, Tiffany D???Alessandro, and Shauntaine Harris will takewww.RedStormSports.comalong with them for the ride. In the first installment of ???Rookie Diary,??? Ona Halladay talks about how she has contributed to the team and life in New York.
Hi St. John???s Softball Fans:
My name is Ona Halladay and I am originally from Palmyra, N.Y. I am a freshman outfielder on the St. John???s softball team.
So far this season, I???ve had the opportunity to play in 17 games, starting in 15. Since coming to St. John???s, I have had to make a transition from infield to outfield. It was difficult at first but it???s great to have the opportunity to prove myself and show that I am a versatile player. It???s also nice to be able to adjust to certain positions to help better the team.
This week in our home opening doubleheader against Rider, I started in right field in both games. During first game, I had the opportunity to start a rally with a single to left field. In the second game, I contributed to our win by hitting a double and knocking in three runs. I have become much more comfortable at the plate and have learned that I don???t need to have the big hit all the time. Sometimes, just a small hit will be better for the team???s success.
I am currently living in the Residence Village at St. Johns University. It gives students the opportunity to meet new people and have new experiences. Also, you are close to everything on campus and have access to all the things St. John???s has to offer. The University is in a great location to be able tour the Big Apple. It???s just a subway ride away and it is always fun to go in and experience all the many things New York has to offer.
Thanks and Go Red Storm!
Ona Halladay, #25
