Softball Travels To Army For A Non-Conference Doubleheader

??? The St. John???s softball team hits the road for a non-conference doubleheader against Army on Wednesday, April 11, in West Point, N.Y. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
??? The Red Storm earned its third BIG EAST win of the season this past weekend against Seton Hall. The two teams split a pair of games at Red Storm Field, as St. John???s fell, 4-2, in game one before edging the Pirates, 5-4, in game two. Sophomore Danielle Estrada had a standout day at the plate for the Red Storm as she finished the two games with two home runs, 4 RBI and two runs scored. St. John???s is now 9-26 on the season, 3-7 in conference play.
??? Despite the proximity of the two programs, St. John???s and Army have only played each other eight times, dating back to the 1982 season. The Red Storm owns a 7-1 advantage in the all-time series, only two of which were played on Army???s home field. Army???s single win came on its home turf. Most recently, the two squads met during the 2000 campaign, where St. John???s took two victories from Army, 8-0, and 5-1.
??? Army is coming off of a complete four-game sweep of Patriot League foe Holy Cross. Army and Holy Cross played back-to-back doubleheaders last Saturday and Sunday, with the Black Knights going undefeated on the road. In the final day of action, junior hurler Veronica Barth was the winning pitcher in both games. Back-to-back solo homers by Chris Stauffer and Lindsey Gerheim in a four-run seventh snapped a 3-3 tie as the Black Knights beat the Crusaders, 7-3, in the first game and, 4-1, in the nightcap to complete their first four-game series sweep of the Crusaders since 2002.

??? The St. John???s softball team split a pair of games against the visiting Seton Hall Pirates in BIG EAST action. The Red Storm fell 4-2 in game one before sealing a 5-4 victory in game two.
??? Sophomore Danielle Estrada had a standout day at the plate for the Red Storm as she finished the two games with two home runs, 4 RBI and two runs scored. After hitting only one home run over her last two seasons, Estrada now has three, two of which occurred in back-to-back game against Seton Hall.
??? St. John???s right-handed pitcher Kim Lerch retired eight in a row leading up to the sixth inning and was efficient with her pitches, as 47 of her 63 pitches were strikes. Lisa Geer came in two get the last two outs of the sixth inning and close out the game for the Red Storm. She picked up her first save of the season.
Seeing Double
??? Senior Loren Anguiano has doubled in each of St. John???s last six BIG EAST games and in seven out of the team???s last nine, overall. She leads her team with 10 doubles, which is also a career high for the third basemen. Anguiano ranks second in the BIG EAST in doubles, seventh in runs scored (21) and total bases (53) and ninth in slugging percentage (.505).
Storm Tracker
??? Rookie Brandy Reyes continues to be consistent at the plate as she leads the team with a .310 batting average and is tied for a team high 31 hits. She also has six runs, six doubles and 11 RBI. The catcher has shown no signs of nerves in BIG EAST action as she hitting .355 with a pair of doubles and a .419 slugging percentage.
??? Co-captain Bionka King has continued her impressive play as the starting left fielder. She is third on the team with a .282 batting average and has 22 hits overall. Tami Hill, who shares captain duties with King, is hitting .274 with 11 runs, 31 hits and seven doubles. Her 31 hits is tied for a team high and she has hit safely in St. John???s last four games.
??? Roxann Struble has been outstanding for the Red Storm in recent play and made the BIG EAST???s Honor Roll for the week of April 2. She leads the team in BIG EAST games with a .414 batting average, 12 hits and 11 RBI. She also has seven runs, a double and three home runs in conference play. Overall, the infielder is hitting .226 at the plate.
??? Newcomers Shauntaine Harris, Ona Halladay, Spring Montgomery and Tiffany D???Alessandro have each had their moment to shine for the Red Storm. Harris???s 11 RBI is tied for second best on the team and she has notched two home runs to go with her superb play in centerfield. Halladay posted her second double of the season in a conference game against Seton Hall last Saturday and has 11 hits so far this season. Montgomery has driven in five RBI and three doubles, spending time as the first basemen and the designated player while D???Alessandro has seen time in three BIG EAST games. She is hitting .333 over those three games with one hit and one run.
??? In the circle, senior Kim Lerch has tossed more than 122.2 innings so far this season and is second in the BIG EAST Conference in innings pitched. She has set a new career-high in strikeouts with 67 and earned her first conference win of the season against Seton Hall.
??? Junior pitcherLisa Geer picked up her first save of the season against Seton Hall and has four wins overall. She struckout nine over a pair of games against the Pirates and now has 61 K???s this season.
