The St. John's men's soccer program and head coach Dr. Dave Masur have announced the team's schedule for the 2007 season. The Red Storm opens its schedule on the road with an Aug. 24 exhibition game against Hartwick and then plays host to the St. John's Nike Classic, which features contests against Fairleigh Dickinson and Fairfield on Aug. 31 and Sept. 2.
St. John's hits the road for a pair of non-conference games at Virginia Tech, first taking on Virginia Commonwealth on Sept. 7 and then Virginia Tech on Saturday, Sept. 8. After playing a non-league contest against BIG EAST rival Seton Hall (Sept. 13, Belson Stadium), the Red Storm returns to the state of Virginia for a match with 2006 NCAA College Cup participant University of Virginia on Sunday, Sept. 16.
The team's first two BIG EAST contests follow the non-conference contest in Charlottesville, as St. John's takes on West Virginia (Sept. 21) and Pittsburgh (Sept. 23). The Red Storm hits the road for three straight challenging league tilts, traveling to Connecticut (Sept. 28), Providence (Sept. 30) and Villanova (Oct. 6).
Michigan comes to Belson Stadium on Oct. 10 to open a three-game homestand that also features a league game against Louisville (Oct. 13) and the Red Storm's final non-conference match against Princeton (Oct. 17).
The Red Storm begins a stretch run with five games against BIG EAST Red Division opponents to close the year. Cincinnati on the road (Oct. 20) and Rutgers at home (Oct. 24) present matchups against the division's first and second place teams from 2006, while the team's home finale against DePaul (Oct. 27) and road matchups with Syracuse (Oct. 31) and South Florida (Nov. 3) bring an end to the 2007 regular season slate.
The 2007 BIG EAST Championship begins with first and second round games (Nov. 7-8 and Nov. 10-11) at campus sites and ends with the semifinals and finals in Storrs, Conn. on Nov. 16-18.
A 16th consecutive NCAA Tournament for St. John's would begin at campus sites, with first round action taking place on Nov. 23-24. The second round will be played on Wednesday, Nov. 28, the third on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 1-2, and the quarterfinals from Friday-Sunday, Dec. 7-9. Until the NCAA College Cup in Cary, N.C., all games will be played on the campus of the higher seeded team.
