A non-conference schedule that includes perennial powerhouses NC State and Baylor, 11 match-ups with teams that advanced to last year's postseason and a home slate featuring BIG EAST foes Notre Dame, West Virginia and Louisville all highlight the St. John's 2007-08 women's basketball schedule.
The BIG EAST released the composite schedule for its 16 member schools on Thursday, which includes all opponents and dates. St. John's game times and television information will be released at a later date.
"We always play a competitive schedule and this year is no different," sixth-year head coach Kim Barnes Arico said. "We're excited to face NC State at Vermont's tournament after its tremendous run in the NCAA Tournament last year, and our game at Army is always special in remembering Coach [Maggie] Dixon."
The Red Storm's season-opener is Nov. 13, when they visit the Black Knights at Christl Arena. St. John's then travels to Vermont for a first-round tournament match-up with NC State, followed by a game against either Brown or the host Catamounts.
Non-conference tilts against Dartmouth (Nov. 25), at Monmouth (Nov. 28), Boston University (Dec. 1), Massachusetts (Dec. 4), at Hartford (Dec. 7) and Maine (Dec. 14) follow, before St. John's gets a chance to visit the home state of two of its players for a tournament at the University of Alabama-Birmingham (Dec. 17-18). Both Angel Tate (Birmingham) and Joy McCorvey (Brewton) will get a chance to play in front of a hometown crowd.
Baylor, the 2005 NCAA Champion, travels to Carnesecaa Arena on Dec. 22, followed by Morgan State on Dec. 30.
The BIG EAST Conference slate kicks off shortly after the first of the year, when St. John's travels to the RAC to face last year's NCAA runner-up, Rutgers, on Jan. 5.
The Red Storm's remaining conference contests against South Florida (Jan. 8), at DePaul (Jan. 15), West Virginia (Jan. 19), Pittsburgh (Jan. 22), at Syracuse (Jan. 26), at Seton Hall (Jan. 29), Marquette (Feb. 2), at Georgetown (Feb. 6), Villanova (Feb. 9), Louisville (Feb. 13), at Providence (Feb. 16), at Connecticut (Feb. 23), Seton Hall (Feb. 26), at Cincinnati (March 1) and Notre Dame (March 3).
The BIG EAST Tournament will again be held at the Hartford Civic Center in Hartford, Conn., the following weekend, March 7-11.
