St. John's Adds Trani And McAlvey To Compliance Staff

QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's University announces the additions of Doug Trani as Associate Director of Compliance and Ryan McAlvey as Assistant Director of Compliance. Trani began his appointment to the Office of Athletics in late August while McAlvey began his in mid-September. Trani will be responsible for overseeing all recruiting activities while McAlvey's duties will include handling all athletic scholarships and financial aid. Both will also assist the department as a liaison between compliance and the campus community.
"Doug is a tremendous asset to the department and we are all thrilled to have him back," said Kevin Delaney, Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance. "His experience and professionalism will continue to support our compliance efforts in a first class manor. I am also excited to have Ryan join our staff. He brings a wealth of legal experience and knowledge to assist in the ever-changing compliance landscape."
Trani begins his second stint with St. John's after spending last year as the Director of Compliance at Columbia University. Prior to Columbia, Trani was with St. John's for three years serving as the Assistant Director of Compliance. Trani also served as an assistant basketball coach and as an assistant athletics director at Globe Institute of Technology, where he served from September 1999 to June 2002.
Trani graduated from New York University in 1999 with a B.S. in social studies and secondary education. While attending NYU, Trani was a member of the men's basketball team from 1995-99. Trani obtained his Master of Science in administration and supervision of education from St. John's while serving as a graduate assistant in the compliance office from 2002-03.
McAlvey joins the St. John's staff from Seattle, Wash., after having most recently worked as a contract attorney for the Hinton Law Firm. McAlvey gained compliance experience serving as the compliance assistant with the University of Washington and as a Graduate Intern with Saint Louis University. McAlvey also spent the past year as a high school boy's basketball coach with the Emerald City Basketball Academy of Seattle and also spent four years as a political advisor in Wisconsin.
McAlvey earned his B.A. in political science from Marquette University in 1998 and his Juris Doctorate from Saint Louis University in 2005.
