Red Storm Faces Fourth-Straight Ranked Opponent

QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's women's basketball team (10-8, 1-4 BIG EAST) hits the road on Saturday and travels to face in-state league rival No. 24 Syracuse (15-3, 3-2 BIG EAST) at the Carrier Dome. Tip-off is slated for 2:05 p.m.
• The game is dubbed as the BIG EAST Game of the Week and will be televised live locally on SportsNet New York. Beth Mowins will be providing the play-by-play while Brooke Weisbrod will be the color analyst. The contest will also be carried on the following stations across the country: Catch 47, Tampa Bay Sports TV (Live); FSN Pittsburgh (Live); Comcast New England (Live); Time Warner Cable Syracuse (Live); Time Warner Cable, Wisconsin (Live/Delay); ESPN Full Court (Live); Comcast Charter Sports, CSS (Live); Mid Atlantic Sports Network (NDD 4:00 pm).
• The contest with Syracuse marks the fourth-straight ranked opponent that the Red Storm has faced. St. John's is coming off a loss to No. 19/21 Pittsburgh, 70-64, on Tuesday night. The Red Storm put together a late comeback but fell short, battling back from a 23-point deficit to come within six points.
• St. John's and Syracuse meet up for the 49th time in history. Both teams have played each other close throughout the years and the series record reflects that, as the Orange has a small lead, 25-23. Although the Red Storm lost last year's meeting, 61-59, it has won three of the last four contests. has controlled the series, posting a record of 30-14 against the Panthers. In addition to winning the last six meetings, St. John's has dominated at home with a 16-4 record in New York.
Last Year's Meeting Against Syracuse
• The St. John's women's basketball team fell to Syracuse, 61-59, at Carnesecca Arena on Dec. 7, 2006, in the BIG EAST Conference opener for both schools. Monique McLean turned in a dynamic effort and finished an assist away from a triple-double with 23 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists. Tiina Sten added 16 points for her sixth straight double-digit scoring effort, and Angel Tate grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds in the loss.

• The Red Storm's has outscored its opponents this season by an average of 5.9 points. The team is averaging 67.9 points per game, while its opposition nets 62.1 per contest.
• St. John's is also more effective in its shooting, both overall and from long range. The team is connecting on 41.1 percent from the field and 34.1 percent from downtown, while holding its opponents to 37.7 from the field and 29.5 from 3-point range.
• On the defensive side, St. John's has been a menace to other teams this year thanks to its shot blocking. The team is swatting an average of 4.3 balls per game and has out-blocked its opponent on 11 occasions.
Give Me Moore, Give Me Moore
• Junior Kristin Moore had a huge game against Pittsburgh on Jan. 22. The Irving, Texas, native not only led the team in scoring, but also marked a new career best with her 15 points. She was a spark off the bench, connecting on 7-of-10 shots, while posting two offensive rebounds. The double-digit scoring effort was the second of her career.
