QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's women's basketball team will get ready for its highly anticipated 2008-09 campaign by hosting an exhibition game at Carnesecca Arena. The Red Storm will hit the hardwood on Thursday, Nov. 6, and host the X All-Stars with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m. St. John's will then open its regular season schedule when it hosts Northeastern on Friday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m.
Perennial powerhouse Baylor, local rivals LIU, Manhattan and Stony Brook, home games with Connecticut, Rutgers and Syracuse, a holiday tournament at Carnesecca Arena and a record-tying two games played at Madison Square Garden highlight the upcoming schedule.
Fans will also have a chance to catch the Red Storm in four televised games, including two national. On Jan. 13, CBS College Sports will air the St. John's-Georgetown game at 7 p.m. and ESPNU will broadcast the Red Storm's Feb. 1 game at Seton Hall, which will tip off at noon. The Red Storm will have two other contests aired in the New York area on SportsNet New York (SNY). On Jan. 24, St. John's travels to West Virginia for what has been selected as the BIG EAST Game of the Week. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. St. John's rounds out its regular season television slate when it travels to Marquette on Feb. 21 for a 4 p.m. tilt.
The 2008-09 edition of the women's basketball team will be looking to build on its success from a year ago, which included its fifth-straight BIG EAST Championship appearance and a berth to the postseason WNIT. The team returns eight letterwinners and three starters, and welcomes three talented freshmen. Senior Monique McLean, the team's leading scorer with 14.7 points per game, and sophomore Sky Lindsay (8.5 ppg and 2.5 rpg), a 2008 BIG EAST all-freshman team selection, lead the cast of returning players.
