Notes On Last Year's STJ-Dartmouth Game
• St. John's defeated Dartmouth 74-31 on Nov. 28, 2007, at Carnesecca Arena.
• The Red Storm won by 43 points, which was the largest margin of victory since St. John's defeated Providence by 53 points, 93-40, on Feb. 2, 2005.
• Dartmouth's 31 points were the least amount of points the Red Storm allowed since Nov. 19, 1979, when St. John's held Dominican to just 28 points in a 93-28 win.
Scouting The Big Green
• Dartmouth is coming off a season-opening loss on the road to Hartford, 73-40, on Saturday. Betsy Williams finished the game with nine points and tied for a team-high six rebounds. Brittney Smith led the Big Green in scoring with 11 points, while Koren Schram added 10. The Big Green's offense struggled getting into rhythm against Hartford and shot only 23.9 from the field, while the Hawks shot 47.8.
• Last season, Dartmouth posted a 15-16 record and earned a trip to the WNIT. The postseason berth was the fourth straight for the Big Green. The team also won its 16th Ivy League title.
Getting Off To The Right Start
• With a 70-52 victory over Northeastern, the Red Storm recorded its 24th season-opening win in history for a 24-11 slate all-time. When STJ opens the year with a win, the team went on to post a record of .500 or better 17 times.
What A Joy
• Joy McCorvey did not waste any time making an impact for the team during the 2008-09 campaign. In the first game of the season, the junior came on strong, posting a double-double while leading the Red Storm with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Her rebounding effort ties her career best. She was 7-of-10 from the field, and also registered a block, a steal and an assist.
Rookie Debut
• Rookie Da'Shena Stevens had a solid outing in her collegiate debut, scoring seven points and finishing second with eight rebounds against Northeastern. She was the first STJ player to sub into the game and logged 25 minutes of play.
