QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's women's basketball player Monique McLean was named to the PrestoSports/Met Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) honor roll for the week ending Dec. 7.
McLean led the Red Storm to a 1-1 record on the week, including winning the Monmouth game for STJ in the final minute and helping spark a late rally against No. 10 Baylor that fell just short. The senior posted two double-figure scoring performances and averaged a team-high 14.0 points per game. In addition to her strong offensive efforts, McLean paced the way on the defensive end, averaging a team-best 7.0 rebounds per game.
Against Monmouth on Dec. 3, McLean came away with a steal in the final 43 seconds and gave STJ a two-point lead when she nailed a jumper on the ensuing play. She then came away with another steal with 10 seconds to go and iced the victory, 52-48, by making both free throw attempts. Against Baylor on Dec. 6, she had 12 second-half points as the Red Storm rallied late and came within 10. The senior finished the contest with a team-best 16 points and eight rebounds.
The Red Storm (7-1) will return to action on Saturday when it travels to face local foe LIU at 2 p.m.
