Monique McLean Named PrestoSports/MBWA Player of the Week

QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's women's basketball player Monique McLean has been named the PrestoSports/Met Basketball Writers Association Player of the Week as announced by the organization Monday.
McLean helped St. John's win two key conference games for a perfect 2-0 slate on the week while improving the Red Storm's season record to 12-9, 3-5 BIG EAST. The junior scored 20 points in consecutive games, leading the team with a 22.0 scoring average. Starting in both contests, she was 12-of-22 from the floor, 6-for-11 from 3-point range and shot 54.5 overall and from long distance. Averaging 30.5 minutes of action, she was also key from the free throw line with a perfect performance on the week, converting all 14 attempts.
She was also strong defensively, collecting a team-best 12 rebounds. With her production in scoring on the week, she surpassed the 900-point plateau for her career and sits at 919. Against Seton Hall last Tuesday, McLean was close to posting a double-double with a 20-point, nine-rebound performance. In the win over Marquette on Saturday, McLean was 6-for-10 from the field and was a blistering 4-for-7 from long range.
For her efforts, she was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Monday as well
