St. John's Travels To Charleston For Five Games

QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's softball team heads to South Carolina to compete in the College of Charleston Tournament. St. John's day one action includes a 1:30 p.m. match-up vs. the Binghamton Bearcats and then a game against the College of Charleston Cougars at 4 p.m. On day two, the Red Storm will take on BIG EAST rival Syracuse at 11 a.m. before facing the Bearcats at 6 p.m. The final day of the tournament will pit the Red Storm and Cougars against each other at 2 p.m.
• Binghamton and St. John's have never faced before, while the Red Storm leads the all-time series vs. Charleston 2-0. In the series against the Orange, Syracuse leads St. John's 7-6.
• St. John's is on a three-game winning streak after taking both games of a doubleheader vs. St. Peter's on Wednesday. Freshman pitcher Kat Lawrence tossed a gem in the first game, striking out 15 on her way to a 2-hit, complete game shutout.

King Of The Base Paths
Senior outfielder Bionka King has turned it on since moving into the leadoff spot for the Red Storm. King leads the team with 6 stolen bases on the year.
"Deezer" The Stuff Champs Are Made Of
Senior shortstop Danielle Estrada isn't just doing it with the glove this season. Over the past ten games, the middle infielder has a home run and 6 RBI.
Rox Steady
After being reinserted into the cleanup spot junior first baseman Roxy Struble has been on a tear. Over the past ten games she has hit 5 doubles and has 7 RBI, both pacing St. John's.
Not The Only Reyes In New York
Sophomore catcher Brandy Reyes has been on a fire, hitting .333 over the past week. Reyes has recorded 9 hits including a home run and 4 RBI. She is also slugging .481 and has a .441 on-base percentage.
In Kacee You Missed It
Third baseman Kacee Cox is proving not to be your average freshman. Cox has already been named to the BIG East Honor Roll once this year, and is batting .346 with a home run and 6 RBI over the past ten games.
Durning The Corner
Another freshman, outfielder Chelsea Durning, has started to produce after being moved into the two spot in the lineup. After starting the season as the leadoff hitter, head coach Amy Kvilhaug has found that her new right fielder is very comfortable batting second. The right fielder went 1-for-2 with 3 runs and 2 walks vs. St. Peter's.
This Kat Has Claws
Freshman Pitcher Kat Lawrence has shown that she is indeed a big game pitcher and on Wednesday she added an exclamation point. She recorded her second shutout and fourth complete game vs. St. Peters, striking out 15 and allowing only 2 hits and giving up 1 walk.
SCOUTING OPPONENTS
Binghamton
• The Bearcats are 2-7 thus far in 2008 and were 8-33 (3-17) a season ago.
• Deannie Plemon leads the team with eight RBI and has a .269 batting average.
• Sandy Meadows is batting .333 and leads the team with a .542 slugging percentage, two triples and three steals.
• Cyrilla Suker leads the pitching staff with a 2.50 ERA. Suker is 1-3 with four complete games and has 41 strikeouts in 33.2 innings.
• Patty Egan is 1-2 with a 4.06 ERA and one complete game.
Syracuse
• Syracuse was 21-31 a year ago and finished 9-11 in BIG EAST play.
• The Orange is 3-15 in 2008.
• Amy Kelley leads the team with two home runs and a .306 batting average.
• Rachel Tilford and Hallie Gibbs are tied for the team lead with seven RBI.
• Chanel Roehner leads the staff with a 2.33 ERA and has a 2-5 record. Roehner has three complete games and one shutout.
College of Charleston
• Charleston is 9-19 in 2008 and boasts an 8-2 record in home games.
• Tiffany Harmon has a .304 batting average to lead the team and also adds 10 RBI. Harmon also leads the team with three triples.
• Kristie Shifflett leads the team with 12 RBI and Shannon Howard is second with 11 RBI.
• Howard also leads the staff with a 5.00 ERA and has three complete games to go with a 5-8 record.
• Terri Mesko has two shutouts and 83 strikeouts in 89.0 innings.
