St. John's Travels South To Face USF And Louisville

QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's will take on South Florida in a doubleheader in Tampa, Fla. at the USF Softball Field on Friday March 28. The Red Storm then have a travel day before taking on Louisville in its second doubleheader in three days as the team goes up against the Cardinals at Ulmer Stadium in Louisville, Ky.
• The Red Storm trails the all-time series with USF 8-0. The Louisville, St. John's series is in favor of the Cardnials 3-2.
• In last years meeting with the Bulls, USF took both games of the doubleheader. USF took the first game by 3-1 and the second by a single run, 8-7.
• St. John's and Louisville split the doubleheader between the two teams last season. The Cardinals took the first game 7-5 but the Red Storm was able to down the eventual BIG EAST champs in the final game of the season, 1-0.
• The Red Storm is currently on a five game win streak after a victory over Fairfield and two wins over Monmouth this week.
• St. John's also boasts its first BIG EAST Player of the Week in two years after junior Roxy Struble was selected to the honor on Monday.
SCOUTING USF
• The Bulls went 44-22, 15-5 a year ago and return 17 letterwinners form last years' team. USF also returns nine starters and three pitchers.
• Head coach Ken Eriksen touts a record of 509-261-1 in his 11 year career as a head coach at USF.
• USF is by paced sophomore first baseman JoJo Medina. Medina is batting .295 on the year with nine runs, six doubles, four home runs, and 20 RBI. The second year player also touts a .526 slugging percentage.
• Junior shortstop Britta Giddens is having another great season for the Bulls, batting .340 over 34 starts with 34 hits, five doubles, three home runs and 12 RBI. Giddens is also slugging .480 and has nine stolen bases.
• Senior outfielder Kit Dunbar leads the Bulls in batting with a .374 average. The also has 10 runs, two doubles five RBI and three stolen bases.
• USF's staff is anchored by senior Courtney Mosch. Mosch boasts a 1.04 ERA over 100.2 innings and has a 12-5 record on the season. She also has 65 strikeouts to go along with five complete games and two shutouts.
• Junior Kristi Ecks is second on the team with 10 starts and 69.0 innings pitched with a 1.42 ERA.
SCOUTING LOUISVILLE
• Last season, the Cardinals went 37-35 overall and 14-6 in the BIG EAST. Louisville returns 12 letterwinners, six starters and two pitchers from last year's campaign.
• Head coach Sandy Pearsall has been with Louisville for the past eight years and has a 293-183 record with the team.
• The Cardinals are led by senior first baseman Sarah Totten. Totten is hitting .316 with 13 runs, 5 doubles, a home run, 17 RBI and two stolen bases.
• Sophomore catcher Melissa Roth leads the team in batting with a .400 average and has 22 runs, 12 doubles, two triples, 11 RBI and 5 stolen bases on the year.
• Freshman third baseman Chelsea Bemis is batting .347 in her first year and has nine runs, eight doubles, three home runs and 27 RBI.
• Sophomore pitcher Kristen Wadwell boasts a 2.42 ERA on the season and has six wins and eight complete games while striking out 71 in 97.0 innings.
• Junior starter Kassie Stanfill has a 2.42 ERA and has struck out 74 in 69.1 innings. Stanfill also has six wins, five complete games and a shutout.
