Red Storm Softball Takes On Army In Queens

Queens, N.Y. - St. John's will take on the Black Knights of Army in a doubleheader in Queens, N.Y. at Red Storm Field on Wednesday, April 2 at 3 pm. The Red Storm leads the all-time series with Army 2-0. The two teams met for the first time ever last year and St. John's took game one 3-1 and game two 14-10.
• St. John's went 3-4 last week starting the week 3-0 and tying its longest win streak of the year at five.
• The Red Storm took on BIG EAST opponents Louisville and USF this past weekend and were involved in one-run affairs in three of the four games between the conference foes.
• St. John's begins a seven game home-stand on Wednesday against the Knights. The Red Storm will also take on BIG EAST rivals Notre Dame and DePaul this weekend.

Four Times The Funn
Graduate student Alyson Funn has turned it on as of late batting over .400 over the past week. The left fielder is batting .438 with three runs, a home run and 3 walks in seven games.
Lawrence Like Whoaaaa!
Freshman Kat Lawrence had a great week for St. John's recording a 1.53 ERA in three starts. The starter had two complete games and struck out 19 in 18.1 innings.
Main-taine The Pace Your On
Sophomore Shauntaine Harris capped off an outstanding week for the Red Storm. The center fielder enjoyed the best week of her season hitting .353 with 2 runs a double and a stolen base.
Brandy Bats For Average
Sophomore Brandy Reyes continues to be one of the best hitters in all of the BIG EAST. The second year catcher boasts a .378 average on the season with 31 hits and 14 RBI.
Geer-ing Up
Designated player Lisa Geer is batting .313 over the past seven games. The senior has two runs, two doubles, a home run and three RBI over the past week.
Durning Into A Good One
Freshman Chelsea Durning is batting .300 over the past week. The leadoff hitter has come through with 2 runs on six hits this past week. The right fielder has also not committed an error on the season.
Kacee Keeps It Coming
Freshman Kacee Cox has continued her power hitting ways, blasting her fifth home run over the past weekend. The third baseman also boasts 22 RBI on the season to go along with a .617 slugging percentage.
Danielle Doubles Up
Senior co-captain Danielle Estrada came through with a few big hits the week, pacing St. John's with two doubles and two stolen bases. The shortstop also had two runs and two RBI in the seven games.
Solid Struble First baseman Roxy Struble followed up her BIG EAST Player of the Week award knocking in two runs and recording a double on five hits. The junior also had two runs and did not commit and error.
SCOUTING ARMY
• The Black Knights went 15-36, 9-11 a year ago and return 13 letterwinners form last years team. Army also returns six starters and four pitchers.
• Head coach Jim Flowers touts a record of 360-419-2 in his 17 year career as a head coach at Army.
• Army is by paced freshman outfielder Laura Baranek. The freshman is the only Knight batting over .300 this season for Army. The outfielder is hitting .324 in 26 games. Baranek also is the only player with double digit runs with 16. Baranek also has two doubles, three triples, a home run, six RBI, seven walks and seven stolen bases.
• Sophomore third baseman Erin McClain has been the Knights second best hitter so far this season. The second year player is hitting .286 in 26 games and has eight runs. The corner infielder also has a double, a home run, five RBI and a stolen base on the season.
• Army has also gotten great play out of another freshman, Jill Galloway. Galloway is hitting .277 with eight runs in 19 starts. The freshman outfielder also has three doubles, four RBI, and a stolen base on the year.
• Army's ace is senior Veronica Barth. Barth has a 3.35 ERA on the year and two victories. Barth has five complete games in 13 starts. The pitcher also has 39 strikeouts in 77.1 innings.
