St. John's Hosts Rutgers And Villanova

QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's softball team (18-32, 3-13) finishes its BIG EAST schedule this weekend at home versus Rutgers (19-29, 3-13) and Villanova (17-25, 5-11). The weekend is highlighted by a special alumnae presentation as well as Senior Day ceremony on Sunday.
• The Red Storm takes on the Scarlet Knights in a doubleheader this Saturday, April 26 at Noon.
• St. John's trails the all-time series with Rutgers, 27-17-1.
• The two teams met last season in a doubleheader at Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights took both games by just one run, 3-2 and 7-6.
• The Red Storm faces off versus Villanova in doubleheader Sunday, April 27 at Noon. These are the last two BIG EAST games of the year for St. John's
• Villanova leads the all-time series with St. John's, 29-18. Last year, the two teams split a double header at Villanova with St. John's shutting out the Wildcats 3-0 in the second game.
STORM TRACKER
In Kacee Of Emergency; Break Records
Freshman Kacee Cox has made her mark on St. John's this season. The third baseman is already tied for 10th on the single season home run leaderboard with seven. She is also tied for fifth with 14 doubles, tied for fourth with 20 walks and is sixth with a .561 slugging percentage.
Brandy On Base
Sophomore Brandy Reyes is having another phenomenal season for the Red Storm. The catcher's .438 on-base percentage ranks her seventh all-time on the single season leaderboard. Reyes also made this list last year when she touted an OBP of .448.
Senior Speed
Seniors Bionka King and Danielle Estrada pace the Red Storm in stolen bases this year with 14 and 10, respectively. King ranks seventh on the single season leaderboard and Estrada is two short of tying 10th.
Kat K's Her Way Into The Books
Freshman Kat Lawrence is enjoying a great rookie campaign with St. John's. The pitcher as already cracked the top-10 single season record books. Currently, Lawrence is fourth with 146 strikeouts and will move into third with two more K's. 6.2 more innings will put her in tenth place for innings pitched.
High-Power Geer
Over the past month, senior tri-captain Lisa Geer has been dominant both at the plate and in the circle. The pitcher/designated player leads the Red Storm in home runs (5) and RBI (14) through the month's games. Geer also boasts a 3-4 record with a 2.58 ERA. She has completed four games, recorded one shutout and struck out 40 in 62.1 innings.
SCOUTING RUTGERS
• The Scarlet Knights are 19-29 this season and 3-13 in the BIG EAST Conference.
• Rutgers went 20-34, 7-15 last year. The Scarlet Knights returns 13 letterwinners including seven starters and one pitcher.
• Head coach Jay Nelson is in his second season with Rutgers. Nelson went 20-34 in his first year with the team.
• Rutgers is paced by freshman Mandy Craig. The first baseman leads the Scarlet Knights with a .300 average. Craig also has 17 runs, five doubles, three triples and 25 RBI on the year.
• Junior outfielder Amanda Shaw leads Rutgers in stolen bases with 10. Shaw also boasts a .281 average to go along with 24 runs and 10 RBI.
• Senior Mallory Miller is batting .294 this year and has 21 runs and 20 RBI on the year.
• The Rutgers pitching staff has a team ERA of 4.10. The staff has completed 19 of 48 games and stuck out 168 batters in 322.1 innings pitched this year. Opponents are batting .304 against the Scarlet Knights this season.
SCOUTING VILLANOVA
• The Wildcats are 17-25 this year and 5-11 in the BIG EAST Conference.
• Villanova went 25-31-1, 5-13 a season ago. The Wildcats return 15 letterwinners. Nova returns nine starters from last season as well as three pitchers.
• Head coach Maria DiBernardi is in her 24th year with the Villanova and is 604-462-8 in that time.
• Nova is led by utility player Meghan Morese. Morese is batting .348 this year and has 17 runs, 11 doubles, six home runs and 27 RBI.
• Danielle Maricle is batting .300 for the Wildcats this year. The outfielder leads the team with 11 stolen bases.
• The Villanova pitching staff is anchored by Laura Determan and Nicci Ward. Determan boasts a 1.64 ERA and a 7-8 record. She has completed eight of the 16 games she has started and struck out 81 batters in 81.0 innings. Ward has a 2.24 ERA on the year and a 6-9 record. She has completed six of the 17 games she has started and stuck out 123 batters in 112.2 innings this season.
