QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's men's golf team will host an 18 team field at its annual fall tournament, The McLaughlin. The 54 hole event will be held at the par 72, Red Course at Bethpage Golf Course in Farmingdale, N.Y. The first round of the event is slated to begin at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow morning, Friday Sept. 19.
"We have a great field of teams this year and a wonderful golf course to compete on," said head men's golf coach Frank Darby. "We should have good weather which makes for intense competition at a very exciting event."
The Red Storm is led by junior co-captains Mike Ballo Jr. and Evan Beirne. Ballo Jr. is coming off a seventh place finish at the team's first tournament of the year, The Maryland Invitational.
The other three members of the St. John's team are seniors Casey Calmi and Kevin Velardo and sophomore transfer Mark Costanza. Junior Dan Mollicone and sophomore John Kahlden will be competing as individuals.
Last year, the Red Storm took second at the event as Ballo Jr. paced the squad with a fourth place finish, carding a 2-under 207.
This year's field of teams is made up of Boston College, Arkansas State, Creighton, Drexel, George Mason, Harvard, Iona, Jacksonville State, Johnson & Wales, Longwood, Princeton, Sacred Heard, Southeast Louisiana, St. Thomas Aquinas, Temple, Towson, and Villanova.
