BIG EAST Releases Women's Basketball Television Schedule

QUEENS, N.Y. - The BIG EAST Conference released its television schedule for the 2009-10 women's basketball season on Thursday and it featured a nationally televised gamed for St. John's and a game aired on SportsNet New York (SNY).
The Red Storm's BIG EAST opener against West Virginia on Jan. 2 at Carnesecca Arena will be aired regionally on BIG EAST Regional Sports Networks. The contest, which is designated as the BIG EAST Game of the Week, tips off at 2 p.m. and will be televised locally on SNY.
Fans across the country will get a chance to see the Red Storm in action on Jan. 12 when CBS College Sports airs the St. John's-Seton Hall game at 7 p.m. The contest is the third league game of the year for the women's basketball team, and it's first of two meetings with the Pirates in 2009-10. The game is featured as the "Conference Game of the Week."
The BIG EAST will continue to expand its women's basketball web site coverage in 2009-10. For the second straight year, fans can watch both the first and second rounds of the Conference championship live on BIGEAST.tv, the league's online home for live and on-demand streaming audio and video. Users should visit www.bigeast.tv for more information.
The BIG EAST Championship Final on March 9 will be one of two games this season aired on the network's original station, ESPN. It will again be the only women's basketball conference final in the nation aired on ESPN. The BIG EAST is the only conference to be featured on the channel this season.
The 2009-10 edition of the women's basketball team returns four starters and six letterwinners and features a five-person freshman class the was rated nationally in the top 15 by ESPN.com and Blue Star Basketball. Reigning BIG EAST Freshman of the Year Da'Shena Stevens, who finished second on the team in scoring with 11.9 points per game and first in rebounding with 6.6 rebounds, along with senior Kelly McManmon, who averaged a career-high 10.4 points and shot 38.8 percent from the floor and 39.7 from long distance, lead the cast of returning players.
St. John's will open its highly-anticipated season at Stony Brook on Sunday, Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. The Red Storm will have its home opener on Saturday, Nov. 21 when it welcomes Boston University to Carnesecca Arena at 2 p.m.
