WASHINGTON, D.C. - The St. John's volleyball team fell to Georgetown, 3-0 on the road on Friday evening despite 12 kills from sophomore Darlene Ramdin. The Red Storm moves to 8-11 on the season (1-2 BIG EAST) as the Hoyas improve to 11-8 (1-2 BIG EAST).
The Hoyas used a late 10-3 run to expand a 15-13 lead into a 25-16 first-set win as Ramdin added five points for the Red Storm in the set.
STJ battled back from a five-point deficit to within to at 19-17 in the second stanza after a pair of errors from the Hoyas. A kill from Kun Song made it 21-20, with the Red Storm trailing. GU got the kill on the next point before St. John's was credited with the next two points to tie it at 22. Jordan Haskins and Song came up with a block on the next play before a service error tied the score again at 23. The pair blocked the next Hoya attack, but GU scored the next point to tie the score yet again. A kill from Ramdin on next play gave STJ the advantage, 25-24, but the Hoyas would go on to capture the second set, 28-26 and a 2-0 lead in the match.
GU took a 10-7 lead in the third set after trading points to start. A pair of kills from Ramdin brought the Red Storm within reach in the third, 20-18, after the Hoyas held the advantage by as many as five point mid-set. GU earned the match-point opportunity, 24-21 before St. John's scored the next point to bring the Red Storm within two. The Hoyas would go on to win the set, 25-22 and the match, 3-0.
Ramdin led the Red Storm with 12 kills, while freshman Gabriela Petkova tallied 25 assists and six digs. Rookie libero Ashley Asing also notched 13 digs in the match.
The Red Storm returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 4 to battle USF on the road. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
