LOUISVILLE, K.Y. - The St. John's volleyball team sent the third set at Louisville to extras on Friday night, but could not escape the wrath of the Cardinals (16-10, 9-4 BIG EAST), falling 3-0 on the road. The Red Storm (9-20, 2-11 BIG EAST) got 11 kills from sophomore outside hitter Darlene Ramdin to pace the squad.
Ramdin recorded four kills in the first set and tied the score at 15 after a pair of service aces before the Cardinals took the set, 25-17, with a 10-2 run. Ramdin added four digs in the set as well.
In set two, Louisville raced to a 13-4 lead from which St. John's would not recover. The Red Storm got four digs on defense from freshman libero Ashley Asing in the set, while Ramdin added another four kills as the Cardinals took a 2-0 lead in the match.
St. John's put up a fight in the third set, taking UofL to extra points. The Red Storm led by as many as four points early in the set before Louisville tied the score at 14. The two would trade points for the remainder of the stanza with eight knotted scores. A kill from junior Kun Song scored the 24th point for the Red Storm before the Cardinals captured the set, 26-24 to win the match, 3-0. Song would finish the set with five kills and a solo block. Rookie setter Gabriela Petkova added 13 assists in the set as well.
Ramdin led the squad with 11 kills, while adding a pair of aces, five digs and two blocks. Song followed with eight kills and six digs. Asing tallied a team-high nine digs and teammate Kayla Motoyama pitched in eight digs.
The Red Storm caps its regular season with its final match at Cincinnati on Sunday, Nov. 15 at 2 p.m.
