Da'Shena Stevens Named To BIG EAST Honor Roll

QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's women's basketball player Da'Shena Stevens was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Stevens nearly averaged a double-double as she led the team to a pair of victories over Florida, 61-47, on Nov. 27 and Saint Joseph's, 81-74, on Nov. 30 en route to the FIU Thanksgiving Classic Championship. The sophomore averaged 18.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals on the week, and was named the tournament MVP. Stevens led the team in scoring and rebounding and shot a team-high 59.3 percent from the field.
Against Florida, Stevens posted her first double-double of the season with a 14-point, 11-rebound performance. She scored 10 of her 14 points in the second half, helping the Red Storm outscore UF 31-17 in the final frame. She also grabbed six of her 11 boards in the crucial second half.
In the championship game against Saint Joseph's, Stevens led all players with a game-high 23 points, including 16 in the second half to key STJ's come-from-behind win. She nearly recorded her second-straight double-double with eight rebounds, six of which came in the final half. Stevens was highly effective from the field, going 11-of-14, including an 8-for-8 effort in the second half. She also chipped in two assists and two steals in 32 minutes of play.
The Red Storm is off to a 5-0 start this season and has received votes for three-straight weeks in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll. Stevens is leading the team with 18.2 points and 7.8 rebounds.
The Red Storm will look to continue its winning ways when it hosts Stetson Tuesday at 7 p.m.
