Head Coach Kim Barnes Arico
Opening statement:
"I thought LIU was a really tough team. They played us great. They came out and gave us a tough time trying to score. I think we settled down in the second half and some people stepped up and did some nice things for us. I was proud of the way we finished the game. I think they were a tough team and we just need to continue to get better every day."
On the tempo:
"The strength of our team is our transition offense. When we have to set up in the half court, we're not as successful as we are when we get to go out and run. The weakness of our team right now is defense. We couldn't stop them in the first half. They scored every time. The score was pretty much even, then they got a little bit of a lead and then we cut into that. The first half was back and forth, no one could stop anyone. That's why there was so much scoring."
On playing defense:
"That's something we need to get better at. It's a sign of our youth. Coco Hart did a tremendous job on the defensive end and even Sky Lindsay, with the experience that she has, does a great job on the defensive end. But when you have Shenneika Smith, Nadirah McKenith, Da'Shena Stevens, who is still young, and the freshmen in the mix, we're really young. They're talented, but we need to get better on the defensive end to become a complete team."
Sophomore Forward Da'Shena Stevens
On being named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll:
"Any recognition I get or any type of award I receive, I'm happy about it but I try to stay focused. I acknowledge the awards but it doesn't define the season."
On the depth of the team:
"We have a deep team. When someone is not having a good game, Coco could step up and Joy McCorvey could step up. I think they both did a great job. I think it's good to have more than one person you could go to on any given night."
Junior Forward Centhya "Coco" Hart
On the team:
"I'm excited about the team. I'm looking forward to the start of the BIG EAST season."
