STJ Wraps Up Non-Conference Action At Northeastern

QUEENS, N.Y. -
The St. John's women's basketball team will conclude non-conference action on Tuesday when it travels to face Northeastern at 2 p.m.
• There will be a live video broadcast of the game that can be accessed on GoNU.TV for $8.95. Live stats will also be available at GoNU.com.
• The Red Storm is off to an 11-1 start this season, and received 24 points in last week's Associated Press Top 25 Poll to rank 30th nationally. STJ has received votes in the AP Poll every week during the regular season. The Red Storm received 19 points in last week's Coaches Poll to rank No. 30.
History Lesson
• The Huskies and Red Storm meet for the 16th time in history. St. John's leads the all-time series, 13-2, and has won seven straight. The Red Storm has posted a 4-1 slate on the road against Northeastern. Last year the teams met on Nov. 14 and the Red Storm came away with the 70-52 win at Carnesecca Arena.
STJ-Chartwells Holiday Classic Champions And Honors
• With a 79-47 win over Texas-Arlington on Dec. 19 and a 75-62 win over Virginia Tech on Dec. 20, the Red Storm won the St. John's-Chartwells Holiday Classic title. The tournament championship was the second of the season for STJ, who won the FIU Thanksgiving Classic earlier in the year.
• Joy McCorvey was named the MVP. The senior posted a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds in the championship game against the Hokies. She was perfect from the field, going 5-of-5, and was 4-of-6 from the free-throw line. The senior grabbed nine rebounds in the second stanza and finished the game with eight offensive boards and seven defensive boards. Against UTA, she grabbed 11 rebounds and nearly recorded a double-double with eight points.
• Da'Shena Stevens earned all-tournament team honors. She finished as the team's leading scorer, averaging 14.5 points, and was the second-leading rebounder, grabbing 8.0 per game. She posted 14 points and eight rebounds against UTA and followed that with a 15-point, eight-rebound effort against Virginia Tech in the championship game.
• Shenneika Smith not only garnered all-tournament honors, but she was also named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. She was the second-leading scorer with 14.0 points per game, and averaged 4.0 rebounds per game. She scored 14 points against UTA and filled up the stat sheet with one assist, one block and two steals. In the title game against Virginia Tech, she finished with 14 points and grabbed four rebounds.
Familiar Face
• A familiar face to the Red Storm will be on the sidelines for Northeastern, as former St. John's assistant coach and current Huskies head coach Daynia La-Force Mann faces the Red Storm. La-Force Mann was an assistant coach at STJ from 2002-05, including spending her final season as Kim Barnes Arico's top assistant. During the 2004-05 campaign, the Red Storm recorded a 20-win season and advanced to the second round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament, the team's first postseason appearance in close to 20 years.
McManmon Close To Holding Record
• Kelly McManmon is only five treys away from breaking the St. John's career 3-point record held by Monique McLean with 172. McManmon currently has 168 career treys.

Barnes Arico Close To Second All-Time In Wins
• Barnes Arico has led the Red Storm to unprecedented success while at the helm of the program. Through eight seasons, she has amassed 116 program victories, and is only two away from tying Don Perrelli for the second most wins all-time at St. John's.
On Deck
• The Red Storm will return to Carnesecca Arena on Jan. 2 and open BIG EAST play when it hosts West Virginia at 2 p.m. The game is the BIG EAST Game of the Week and will be carried locally on SNY.
