St. John's Concludes Homestand With Syracuse On Saturday

QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's women's basketball team continues its homestand on Saturday when it welcomes Syracuse to Carnesecca Arena at 2 p.m.
• RedStormSports.com will stream the game live through StormTracker All-Access. There will also be live stats for the contest that can be accessed for free.
• STJ is coming off a close, 77-64, loss to No. 1 UConn on Feb. 11. The Red Storm played the Huskies tough, outscoring the best team in the nation in the second half, 34-32. In addition to being only the second team this season to outrebound the Huskies (42-37), the 13-point setback was the third-smallest margin of defeat for UConn and the smallest in BIG EAST play.
History Lesson
• The contest between St. John's and Syracuse is the 50th meeting between the teams, with the Orange holding the slight edge in the series, 26-23. SU has an 11-10 slate on the road and a 15-9 mark at home, but STJ leads 3-1 at neutral sites. The Red Storm has won three of the last five meetings.
Scouting The Orange
• Syracuse enters the contest with a 14-9, 3-7 BIG EAST record. The Orange started the season with a 13-2 mark but has struggled as of late, losing six of its last seven games. SU is coming off an 88-79 setback to USF on Feb. 8 at home. On the season, Syracuse is averaging 69.9 points per game and is shooting 38.2 from the field.
• Three players are averaging double figures in scoring for the Orange. Erica Morrow and Chandrea Jones are the top scorers, averaging 16.3 and 16.2 points, respectively. Morrow is 117-of-336 from the field to shoot 34.8 percent, and she is leading the team with 44 3-pointers made. Jones is shooting 39.3 from the field, going 120-of-305, and is leading the team with 8.5 rebounds per contest. Nicole Michael rounds out the double-figure scorers with 13.9 ppg. She is shooting 48.1 from the field, going 102-of-212, and is the second-leading rebounder with 7.9 rpg.

• 27: Points Da'Shena Stevens scored against No. 1 UConn on Feb. 11 to set a new career high.
On Deck
• St. John's will leave the friendly confines of Queens for a two-game road swing when it travels to face No. 10/12 Louisville on Feb. 17 and Marquette on Feb. 21. Both the Cardinals and the Golden Eagles lead the series 4-1.
Big Time Against The No. 1 Team In The Nation
• Stevens had one of the biggest games of her young career against No. 1 UConn on Feb. 11. The rookie scored a game-high 27 points (11-of-17) against the Huskies, setting a new career best. The Stamford, Conn., native's 27 points were the most scored by one player against UConn all season. Stevens also came close to recording a double-double with a team-best nine rebounds, and she led the way for the Red Storm with two blocks.
