QUEENS, N.Y. -
Head Coach Kim Barnes Arico
Opening Statement:
"This is another disappointing loss. Syracuse is an extremely talented team. We didn't do the things we needed to do to be successful, such as rebounds and make our free throws. That really hurt us."
On the Red Storm defense:
"We were a good pressure team. When we changed our tempo, we had them playing fast. When they played fast, they didn't make as many shots. We changed the tempo of the game and that was our goal. We have been fairly successful when we have been able to do that."
On the performances of the bench players:
"They did a great job. I think Kristin Moore gave us some real good minutes off the bench. As well as Coco and Aricia Mitchell gave us some really good minutes."
On giving up many offensive rebounds:
"That was the turning point of the game in my opinion. It's hard to win a basketball game when you give up 22 offensive rebounds. Syracuse had 19 of its points on second chances opportunities. When we played against Connecticut, the game was extremely physical and the referees let you play. Tonight, we tried to come out the same way and we got into foul trouble. We had to make the adjustment of changing that. When we did make the adjustment we got soft, and really didn't go after the ball as aggressively."
Freshman forward Da'Shena Stevens
On Syracuse's physicality:
"I think that they were more physical than us. They got to a lot of rebounds, too. They really hustled and out-worked us on the rebounds."
Sophomore Guard Sky Lindsay
On playing from behind in the second half:
"We stayed positive. We started to apply some pressure. We did a full court press and remained focused even though we were down. We knew we still had a chance, the game wasn't over yet."
