QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's senior Roxy Struble was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Monday for the fourth time this season. Struble hit .563 in six games this past week, including a victory over No. 14/16 Louisville.
Struble led the Red Storm to a 5-1 record this past week with sweeps of Rider and BIG EAST Rival Pittsburgh. STJ split a weekend doubleheader with Louisville, winning the second game 5-4 for its first win over a ranked opponent this season. St. John's went 3-1 in BIG EAST play this week and improved its overall record to 14-13 and 4-4 BIG EAST.
The Chino, Calif., native went 9-for-16 in six games and added six runs, two home runs and six RBI. Struble slugged .938 for the week, while boasting an on-base percentage of .611.
The infielder also changed positions for the third time this season, moving to shortstop. Struble played the last two innings at short vs. Notre Dame last week and started every game this week at the position after not playing there since high school.
This is the eighth time that Struble has been honored by the BIG EAST in her career. This is her sixth honor roll selection with the Red Storm and she was named BIG EAST Player of the Week last season on March 24, 2008. Struble was also an All-BIG EAST third team selection in 2007.
The Red Storm concludes its eight-game homestand this Wednesday when the squad takes on Fordham in a doubleheader at 3 p.m. at Red Storm Field.
