St. John's Baseball Travels To Face UConn

QUEENS, N.Y. - After an 8-1 win against Fordham on Wednesday, the St. John's baseball team will travel to Storrs, Conn., for a three-game BIG EAST series against UConn. The series will mark the first time that the Red Storm has traveled to UConn since 2004. The teams will open play at 3 p.m. on April 24 before a 1 p.m. contest on April 25. The series finale is set for noon on April 26.

Inside The Series With Connecticut
St. John's and UConn have met 100 times in an all-time series that began in 1976. In a closely contested series, the Red Storm holds a slim lead, 51-49. St. John's is 18-26 in games played at Connecticut. This is the Red Storm's first trip to Storrs since 2004 when the teams split a pair of games. Despite taking two of three games against UConn in 2008, St. John's is just 4-6 in the last 10 meetings. Including a pair of meetings in the BIG EAST Tournament, the teams met five times in 2007. In the regular season, St. John's took the series finale after dropping the first two games. The Red Storm topped the Huskies in the tournament's first round before being eliminated by the Huskies in the third round.
Scouting The Huskies
UConn is 22-17, including an 8-7 mark in BIG EAST play. The Huskies are coming off of a 3-1 loss at URI on Wednesday. After being swept by West Virginia in the opening weekend of conference competition, UConn has taken two of three games from USF, Seton Hall, Rutgers and Georgetown. Nemeth leads the team with a .357 average and a team-best 14 doubles. Springer provides the power with a team-high .674 slugging percentage and team-bests in home runs (11) and RBI (40). Fatse has 36 RBI and is a threat on the base paths with 14 steals in 18 attempts.

Parque On A Roll
Junior Jimmy Parque enters the weekend riding a season-high 15-game hitting streak, the longest hitting streak for the Red Storm this year. The outfielder is batting .425 (31-for-73) in that span with four doubles, three home runs and 19 RBI. Parque has 16 multi-hit games this year, including a team-best 10 3-hit games. The junior has also tallied four RBI in a game on three occasions, another team-best.
