QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's men's soccer alums have continued to establish themselves in the professional ranks. Shalrie Joseph, Chris Wingert and Stefani Miglioranzi are playing in the MLS, while Bill Gaudette and Brent Sancho are in the USL-1 and Chris Corcoran is playing overseas.
A midfielder for the New England Revolution, Joseph is making his sixth-straight appearance in the annual MLS All-Star Game. This is also the fourth-consecutive season that Joseph has been a First XI selection as one of the top vote getters at his position. The midfielder has played in 13 games with 12 starts, and has tallied five goals and five assists.
Joseph and the MLS All-Stars will face Everton FC of the English Premier League in the 2009 MLS All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 29 from Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah. The 9:30 p.m. game will be televised on ESPN.
The 2003 M.A.C. Hermann Trophy winner, Wingert has appeared in 17 games and has made 15 starts for Real Salt Lake. The defender, who made his 100th-career MLS start on July 18, has logged 1,345 minutes and has two assists. Wingert also earned his first-career cap with the full U.S. Men's National Team, appearing in a 3-2 win against Sweden on January 24.
After helping Columbus win the 2008 MLS Cup, Miglioranzi was acquired by the Los Angeles Galaxy prior to the 2009 season. The midfielder has played in 14 games, drawing 11 starts, and has taken three shots in 1,010 minutes on the field. Playing alongside David Beckham and Landon Donovan, Miglioranzi and the Galaxy recently played Ronaldinho and AC Milan to a 2-2 draw in a friendly at The Home Depot Center.
For the second-straight season, Gaudette is the starting goalkeeper for the USL-1 Puerto Rico Islanders. Gaudette ranks first in the league in wins (9), saves (80) and minutes (1,800). The keeper is second in shutouts (7) and sixth in goals against average (0.90) for the first-place Islanders (9-4-7).
Sancho, meanwhile, is a defender and also serves as an assistant coach for the USL-1 Rochester Rhinos. In 14 games this season, the player/coach has tallied one goal. After playing overseas from 2003-07, Sancho returned to the U.S. for the 2008 season and played for the USL-1 Atlanta Silverbacks. Overseas, Sancho played for Gillingham (English League Two), Dundee United FC (Scottish Premier League) and Joe Public in the Professional Football League in Trinidad & Tobago.
