Buffalo Sweeps St. John's, 3-0

ITHACA, N.Y. - The St. John's volleyball team fell to Buffalo, 3-0, in the Cornell Invitational in Ithaca, N.Y. on Friday afternoon. Sophomore Darlene Ramdin had 11 kills for the Red Storm. With the loss, St. John's moves to 5-8 on the season, while Buffalo improves to 7-4.
St. John's trailed Buffalo for the entire first set, with the Bulls leading by as many as nine points. Buffalo won the first stanza 25-15 to lead the match 1-0.
The Red Storm held a 20-18 lead late in the second set, but was stifled by seven straight points from the Bulls and UB claimed set two, 25-20. St. John's tied the score on nine occasions in the set.
Buffalo began to pull away in the third set, 15-11, after eight tie-scores before the 11th-point mark. The Bulls gained their largest advantage of the set at 21-16 after an attack error but the Red Storm tallied the next two points to get back within three, 21-18. With the Bulls threatening at game-point, Ramdin got the kill and Diana Banya put one down on the next point to make it 24-20 before Buffalo came away with the set, 25-20 and the match, 3-0.
Ramdin led the Red Storm with 11 kills, while freshman Gabriela Petkova tallied 31 assists. Freshman Ashley Asing led the team with 10 digs.
The Red Storm continues play in the Cornell Tournament tomorrow, taking on Cornell at 11 a.m. before facing Colgate in the nightcap at 5 p.m.
