QUEENS, N.Y. - After posting a 1-0-1 record in the opening weekend of conference play, the St. John's men's soccer team had a pair of players named to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll. Senior Derby Carrillo and junior Kyle Hoffer were both named to the honor roll after the Red Storm notched shutouts against Georgetown and Seton Hall.
The BIG EAST goalkeeper of the week after the opening weekend of play, Carrillo earns his second-career conference honor. The keeper stopped four shots in a 2-0 win against Georgetown and also saved three shots in a double-overtime 0-0 draw against Seton Hall. Carrillo is tied for first in the BIG EAST with four shutouts and also ranks second with a 0.30 goals against average.
Hoffer, meanwhile, earns his first-career BIG EAST honor. The junior started both games on the back line due to an injury and played all 200:00 minutes on the weekend. Hoffer and the defensive unit limited the opposition to just seven shots on goal.
St. John's (2-1-3, 1-0-1) also set a new Belson Stadium attendance record on Sept. 18 against Georgetown. A record crowd of 2,518 fans saw the Red Storm rally behind a pair of second half goals to defeat the Hoyas, 2-0, in the BIG EAST opener.
