No. 18 St. John's Travels To Face UConn, Providence

QUEENS, N.Y. - The No. 18/22 St. John's men's soccer team (2-1-3, 1-0-1) takes to the road for a pair of BIG EAST games this weekend. The squad will face Connecticut at 7 p.m. on Sept. 25 before matching up against Providence at 3 p.m. on Sept. 27. The UConn contest will feature GameTracker, while live video will be available through CSTV All-Access and the UConn student radio broadcast will be available at www.whus.org. GameTracker will also be available for the Providence game, as well as live video through CSTV All-Access.

Inside The Series With Connecticut
- This will be the 29th meeting in a series that began in 1981.
- St. John's leads the all-time series 13-11-4, including a 5-3-3 mark since 2002.
- The Red Storm is 6-9-1 in games played in Storrs.
Scouting The Huskies
- Connecticut is 2-2-2 (1-1-0) on the season and is coming off of a 2-1 defeat to Rutgers.
- The Huskies have not played at home since a 3-0 loss to then-No. 23 Boston University on Sept. 5.
- Alan Ponce and Tony Cascio pace the offense with two goals apiece.
- A 2008 first team All-BIG EAST selection, Toni Stahl has one assist. Mike Pezza, a 2008 All-BIG EAST honorable mention also has one assist.
- Josh Ford has started all six games in goal and has three shutouts and a 0.93 goals against average.
Inside The Series With Providence
- This will be the 24th meeting in a series that began in 1987.
- St. John's leads the series 19-2-2 and is unbeaten in 21 meetings (19-0-2) since 1989.
- The Red Storm was 2-0-0 against the Friars in 2008. St. John's notched a 1-0 win on Sept. 28 and a 1-0 overtime win on Nov. 8 in the BIG EAST Tournament.
- St. John's has played the Friars to a scoreless draw in each of the past two meetings in Providence.
Scouting The Friars
- Providence is 3-3-0 (0-2-0) and is coming off losses to Rutgers and Villanova in the opening weekend of conference action.
- A 2008 third team All-BIG EAST choice, Timothy Ritter leads the offense with three goals, all game-winners.
- Nick Cianci has one goal, while Marc Cintron and keeper Timothy Murray each have one assist.
- Murray has made all six starts in goal and has three shutouts and a 0.94 goals against average.
Carrillo, Hoffer Named To BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
- After posting a 1-0-1 record in the opening weekend of BIG EAST play, Derby Carrillo and Kyle Hoffer were each named to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll.
- The BIG EAST goalkeeper of the week after the opening week of play, Carrillo earns his second-career conference honor. The keeper combined to make seven saves in a 2-0 win and a 0-0 draw double-overtime.
- Hoffer, meanwhile, earns his first-career BIG EAST accolade. The junior started both games on the back line due to an injury and played all 200:00 minutes. Hoffer and the defensive unit limited the opposition to just seven shots on goal.
Crowd Sets New Belson Stadium Attendance Record
- A record-setting crowd of 2,518 fans saw St. John's beat Georgetown, 2-0, on Sept. 18 in the BIG EAST opener.
- The record attendance marked the largest crowd since 2,242 fans watched St. John's tie Wake Forest, 1-1, in the first-ever game played at Belson Stadium on Sept. 21, 2002.
