STJ Continues League Action At Syracuse On Wednesday

QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's women's basketball team will continue BIG EAST action on Wednesday when it travels to face in-state foe Syracuse at 7 p.m.
• There will be a live video stream of the game, in addition to live stats, featured on SUAthletics.com.
• STJ has a 16-3, 4-2 BIG EAST slate and received 32 points in this week's AP Poll to rank No. 30. In last week's Coaches Poll, the Red Storm garnered four points.
History Lesson
• The contest between St. John's and Syracuse is the 52nd meeting all-time between the teams. The Orange lead the series 28-23, however the Red Storm is 4-3 through the last seven meetings, including a 63-61 victory last season in the first round of the BIG EAST Tournament.
Scouting The Orange
• Syracuse enters the contest with a 16-3, 3-3 BIG EAST slate. The Orange lost two straight before defeating Louisville, 64-58, on Jan. 23. SU is outscoring its opponents by a margin of 19.7 points per game. Three players are averaging double figures in scoring for the Orange. Nicole Michael leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 14.1 points and 7.4 boards. Off the bench, Kayla Alexander is the second-leading scorer netting 13.0 points per game, while 19-game starter Erica Morrow is scoring 11.6 points per contest.
Quick Hits On The USF Game
• After defeating USF 57-55 on Saturday, St. John's is now 6-1 all-time at Madison Square Garden. The Red Storm leads the all-time series against the Bulls 3-2 and has a perfect 3-0 record at home.
• St. John's held USF to 19 first-half points, marking the sixth time this season that the Red Storm has limited an opponent to under 20 points in one half.
• Junior forward Centhya Hart netted 12 points against USF, marking her sixth time this season in double-digit scoring. The Red Storm is 6-0 when Hart nets 10 points or more.
• Sophomore forward Da'Shena Stevens finished with a team-high 15 points and freshman guard Shenneika Smith totaled 11 points, marking the 12th time this season that St. John's top two leading scorers reached double figures in the same game. The Red Storm is 12-0 when Stevens and Smith score in double digits.
STJ-Villanova Designated As Pink Zone Game
• The Red Storm has designated its BIG EAST contest against Villanova on Feb. 27 as its Pink Zone game to help raise money for breast cancer research in association with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). The first 500 fans will receive a free St. John's Pink Zone t-shirt courtesy of Coca-Cola. During the game, there will be a variety of promotional items given away, in addition to a silent auction that will be held during the contest.
Hart On Fire
• Hart is off to a stellar start this season both offensively and defensively. She is averaging a career-high 7.5 points and 5.8 rebounds through 19 games. Hart is the team's fourth-leading scorer and is the third-leading rebounder. She posted one double-double this year, a 10-point, 12-rebound performance against Boston University on Nov. 21, and scored a career-high 18 points against LIU on Dec. 10. She came close to posting a double-double with an eight-point, 10-rebound effort against Rhode Island on Dec. 13. On Jan. 23, she finished as STJ's second-leading scorer with a 12-point performance against USF.

• The Red Storm will return to Carnesecca Arena on Saturday and welcome Providence at 2 p.m.
Double-Digit Scoring Games
• Stevens has scored 10 or more points in 16 of 19 games this season for the Red Storm, while Smith has posted 13 double-digit scoring efforts.
