Red Storm Hosts Providence On Saturday

QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's women's basketball team will look to extend its four-game winning streak on Saturday when it hosts Providence at 2 p.m.
• RedStormSports.com will stream the game live through StormTracker All-Access. The contest will have a live video and audio broadcast, which will feature a multi-camera setup. Fans can access the feature by going to RedStormSports.com, clicking on the All-Access button and signing up for the service. The All-Access subscription is $9.95 a month or $79.95 for the year. There will also be live stats for the contest that can be accessed for free.
• The Red Storm has a 17-3, 5-2 BIG EAST slate and is receiving votes in both Top 25 Polls this week. STJ received 32 points in this week's AP Poll to rank No. 30. In the Coaches Poll, the Red Storm earned eight points to tie for No. 33.
History Lesson
• St. John's and Providence meet for the 55th time in history on Saturday. The Red Storm leads the series 28-26 and has won seven of the last eight contests, including the last two meetings. Last season, STJ defeated the Friars 57-52 at Madison Square Garden.
Scouting The Friars
• Providence enters the contest with a 12-8, 3-4 BIG EAST slate and has posted a 2-2 mark through its last four games. Two players are averaging double figures in scoring for the Friars. Chelsea Maradola leads the team with 18.3 points per game, and is the second-leading rebounder with 4.9 boards per contest. Mi-Khida Hankins is second in scoring on the team, netting 11.7 points per contest.
Smith Rocks The Carrier Dome
• Freshman Shenneika Smith put on a show against Syracuse on Jan. 27, leading the Red Storm to a 68-65 victory over the Orange in the Carrier Dome. The guard scored 18 of her career-high 28 points in the second half and hit the game-tying and go-ahead free throws with seven seconds left in the contest. The Brooklyn, N.Y., native scored seven of the last 12 points in the game for the Red Storm and finished the contest 8-of-8 from the charity stripe.
Clutch Down The Stretch
• Freshmen Nadirah McKenith and Smith came up big against Syracuse in the final seconds of Wednesday's game. With 10 seconds remaining and Syracuse leading 65-64, McKenith stole the ball and quickly dished it to Smith, who was immediately fouled. Smith sank two free throws to put STJ ahead, 66-65. McKenith stole the ball on the Orange's ensuing possession with five seconds left before getting fouled and making a pair of free throws to ice the game.
McManmon In The Groove
• Senior Kelly McManmon has stepped up her game in BIG EAST play. The guard became St. John's all-time leader in made 3-pointers against Cincinnati (Jan. 10) and she is shooting .500 (19-of-38) from long distance against BIG EAST opponents. McManmon's sharpness from beyond the arc is reflected in her BIG EAST scoring. She is averaging 9.6 points in conference games and 5.2 points in non-conference games.
STJ-Villanova Designated As Pink Zone Game
• The Red Storm has designated its BIG EAST contest against Villanova on Feb. 27 as its Pink Zone game to help raise money for breast cancer research in association with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). The first 500 fans will receive a free St. John's Pink Zone t-shirt courtesy of Coca-Cola. During the game, there will be a variety of promotional items given away, in addition to a silent auction that will be held during the contest.
On Deck
• The Red Storm will open a two-game road trip on Tuesday when it travels to face Georgetown at 8 p.m.
Welcome To The Club
• With six rebounds against Syracuse on Jan. 27, Joy McCorvey became the fourth Red Storm women's basketball player to record over 700 points and 700 rebounds.
RPI Ranks Among The Top 25
• In the report released by the NCAA on Jan. 25, St. John's RPI was rated the 24th best in the country and the sixth best among BIG EAST schools.
