QUEENS, N.Y. - Senior Joel Gustafsson has earned second team Scholar All-East Region honors as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). A two-time Scholar All-East Region selection, Gustafsson was named to the first team in 2008.
In November, the senior earned second team Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for the second-consecutive year.
A philosophy major with a 3.40 GPA, Gustafsson capped his career at St. John's with second team All-BIG EAST honors and third team NSCAA All-Northeast Region accolades. The defender appeared in all 21 games and started 20 contests, while registering one assist. Gustafsson anchored a defensive unit that posted 11 shutouts and held opponents to a 0.48 goals against average.
The St. John's men's soccer team (9-3-9) won a conference-record eighth BIG EAST Tournament crown in 2009 and reached the NCAA Tournament for the 17th time in program history, earning a national seed for the seventh time.
