PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The St. John's women's golf team endured cold and windy conditions this weekend at Rutgers University Golf Course before taking home fourth place on Saturday in the 20-team Rutgers Women's Invitational.
Friday's first round of play was suspended due to darkness on the par-72, 6034-yard course. First-round play resumed early Saturday morning, followed by the final round. The Red Storm enjoyed an eight-shot improvement in the final round as STJ players combined for a 332-324--656 (+80), 14 strokes back of tournament winner Fairleigh Dickinson (642). Bucknell (649) and Siena (655) rounded out the top three.
St. John's freshman Harin Lee tied for third place after carding an 82-78--160 (+16), five strokes back of Sacred Heart's Gabriella Riber, who won the individual title at 13-over 155. Lee now has three top-5 finishes in her first four collegiate tournaments. Lee took third place in the Yale Women's Fall Intercollegiate (Sept. 25-26) and tied for fifth in the Towson Women's Invitational (Sept. 13-14).
Sophomore Mariana Barrios tied for 12th after shooting 83-79--162 (+20). Barrios a pair of top-15 showings this season. In the Towson Women's Invitational (Sept. 13-14), she posted a career-best tie for eighth place.
Junior Ellen Oswald, sophomore Sebin Kim and freshman Stephanie Eybers tied for 40th after they each carded a 17-over 169.
The Red Storm will wrap up its fall slate next weekend when it competes in the Sacred Heart Fall Classic from Oct. 24-25 at Great River Golf Club. St. John's won the 2009 Sacred Heart Fall Classic when it placed five players in the top 15, including four in the top 10.
