PITTSBURGH - Junior captain Darlene Ramdin of the St. John's volleyball team was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team as announced at the conference's annual banquet on Thursday night in Pittsburgh.
Building off a 2009 season marked by personal bests, Ramdin led the Red Storm in all major statistical categories in 2010. The 6-2 middle hitter finished the season with a team-high 256 kills and a .261 attacking percentage. The Trinidadian also eclipsed the single season 100-block mark for the first time in her career, registering a team-high 119. Her 1.16 blocks per set average was third-best in the BIG EAST Conference.
Ramdin helped guide the Red Storm to an 18-11 overall record in 2010, doubling the total number of wins from a season ago. Her junior campaign was highlighted by nine double-digit kill performances and one double-double. Ramdin's best match of the season came in a 3-1 win over Georgetown on Nov. 7, when she registered a season-high 20 kills and a career-best .643 attacking percentage. Ramdin committed only two errors in the match on 28 total attempts and added eight blocks. She also recorded a career-high 10 blocks at Army earlier in the season.
With her senior season still remaining, Ramdin is currently ranked ninth in all-time kills with 879 and eighth in all-time blocks with 278 at St. John's.
Ramdin's All-BIG EAST Second Team honor marks the 21st all-conference team selection under head coach Joanne Persico.
