QUEENS, N.Y. - On Friday, Nov. 19, senior Nicole Pasciolla was announced as one of the 35 student-athletes from around the country to be named as a 2010-11 ESPN Academic All-American ®, as voted on by the College Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Pasciolla was named to the Third Team, with a cumulative GPA of 3.96 in Economics and Government and Politics.
"Being named a ESPN CoSIDA Academic All-American, in addition to making the All-BIG EAST Conference teams for four years, and being a Top Ten finalist for the Lowe's Senior Class Award really sums up what a wonderfully well-rounded student-athlete Nicole Pasciolla is," remarked head coach Ian Stone. "It has been an absolute pleasure for all of us at St. John's to be associated with her and her leadership as one of the role models on this team is one for the underclassmen to really emulate."
In early November, Pasciolla was selected as one of 11 members of the Northeast Region University Division First Team, which consisted of one goalkeeper, four defenders, three midfielders and three forwards. As a First Team member, she was put into the national ballot to be considered for All-American.
An economics major from Park Ridge, N.J., Pasciolla has been the backbone of the Red Storm midfield consistently through four seasons, playing in 78 career games and starting 77 of them. With an overall undergraduate GPA of 3.96, she has also begun to take classes to pursue a graduate degree in government and politics. Pasciolla was also a 2009 CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District First Team Nominee as well as a 2008 NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-East Region selection. Pasciolla is also a four-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star.
On the field in 2010, Pasciolla was just one of four seniors who helped guide a team of 17 freshman to seven shutouts. The Red Storm went 6-10-2 overall and 3-7-1 in the BIG EAST, just missing a BIG EAST Tournament berth.
As a junior, after leading the Red Storm to the NCAA Tournament, she was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma International Honor Society which requires candidates to rank among the highest 4.0 percent of their class (as a junior). She was also inducted into the President's Society, St. John's most prestigious group of student who combine scholarship, integrity and maturity with leadership skills demonstrated by their significant contribution to extracurricular life of the University.
In her rookie season, Pasciolla was a Freshman All-America Fourth Team selection and a member of the All-BIG EAST Third Team.
