The Red Storm's 76-71 victory over Notre Dame marked the first time this season that St. John's had two players record double-doubles in the same game. Freshman guard Shenneika Smith finished with a game-high 23 points along with a career-best 10 rebounds. Sophomore forward Da'Shena Stevens scored 21 points and hauled down a team-high 11 rebounds. The win also marked the first time this season STJ had two 20-point scorers in the same contest.
Stevens scored 10 points in the first half, marking the 13th time this season that she has scored 10 or more in a single half. It is the second time she has accomplished the feat against a ranked opponent. Stevens netted 16 points in the first half against then-No. 4/4 North Carolina (Dec. 6).
Junior guard Sky Lindsay, who finished with 13 points, netted 10 points in the first half, marking the fourth time this season that she has scored in double digits in a single half and the second time she has accomplished the feat against a ranked opponent. Lindsay scored 11 second-half points against then-No. 4/4 North Carolina (Dec. 6).
Smith had 10 first-half points. She has scored 10 or more points in a single half nine times this season.
The trio of Stevens, Smith and Lindsay accounted for 57 of the Red Storm's 76 points against Notre Dame. On the season, the group has accounted for 47.8 percent of the Red Storm's scoring. In BIG EAST play, the group is responsible for 47.9 percent of STJ's points.
The Red Storm benefited from Nadirah McKenith's career-high 38 minutes on the floor. The freshman point guard had a solid all-around game, finishing with five points, seven assists, seven rebounds, three steals and one block. The Red Storm is 4-0 this season when McKenith records seven or more assists. STJ's average margin of victory in those games is 25.5 points.
Senior guard Kelly McManmon remained hot from 3-point range, going 2-for-2 from beyond the arc to finish with six points. McManmon is shooting .443 from long distance this season. Her 3-point field goal percentage is .537 in BIG EAST games.
The Red Storm's 21 wins this season are the second-most by an STJ team coached by Kim Barnes Arico. In 2005-06 Barnes Arico led St. John's to a 22-8 record and a second-round appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
