St. John's 23 wins is its most since the 1983-84 season when STJ went 24-6. The 23 victories are also the most for head coach Kim Barnes Arico in her St. John's career, surpassing the Red Storm's 22-win season in 2005-06.
With 22 points in St. John's 69-42 victory over Villanova, sophomore forward Da'Shena Stevens surpassed the 800-point mark for her career. Stevens' 22-point performance marks the sixth time this season that she has scored 20 or more points in a game.
Stevens scored 10 points in the first half and 12 in the second, marking the 14th and 15th time, respectively, that she has scored 10 or more in a single half this season.
Senior forward Joy McCorvey netted 12 points and corralled 10 rebounds in the game for her fifth double-double of the season. The Red Storm is 5-0 when McCorvey records a double-double with an average margin of victory of 22.8 points.
Celebrating Senior Day, seniors McCorvey and Kelly McManmon closed out their careers in style in the second half. McCorvey, known for her hard work and hustle, scored seven points and grabbed six boards after halftime. McManmon, St. John's all-time 3-point leader, hit her final regular-season 3-pointer at Carnesecca Arena in the second half and finished with five points and three rebounds.
Freshman guard Shenneika Smith finished the game with 15 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Smith has scored 15 points or more nine times this season and the Red Storm is 9-0 in those games.
St. John's 27-point victory over Villanova was its second-largest margin of victory in BIG EAST play this season. The Red Storm defeated Louisville 91-56 on Feb. 10 at Carnesecca Arena.
