St. John's Head Coach Kim Barnes Arico
Opening statement:
"I know Villanova's record is not great and most people assumed we'd take care of them easily but they run a system that is very difficult to defend. I was very proud of the way we played on the defensive end. We did a great job on the offensive end and I'm happy to get out of there with a victory."
On the game being last home game for the seniors:
"It was extremely emotional for me, they've just been tremendous kids. Throughout their career it has never been about them it's always been about the team. The greatest thing for me is that they will get an opportunity to go to the NCAA tournament."
"I think we really have something special here. We try to really concentrate on one game at a time but I told them today lets do some damage because its not about making it anymore, I'm pretty sure we're going to make it."
On Women In Sports Day:
"Today has been a fabulous day for us for the last few years, but today was even more important with the breast cancer and us losing one of our own, Ebony Dickinson. Every year we get one of the best women in sports to come speak to us. It's a great opportunity for us to be a part of that."
Senior Guard Kelly McManmon
On Senior Day:
"It was pretty emotional. It's been a long time coming. It was nice to have such a great crowd. And to be on the court with my team for the last time was great, and especially to go out with a win."
"This season we've really grown and we've pushed ourselves to get better."
Senior Forward Joy McCorvey
On playing her last game at Carnesecca Arena:
"It's an amazing feeling, we won we played hard so it made everything even better. It was great I can't even describe the feeling."
On how this year's team is the best team she's been on at St. John's:
"My freshman year was a little rough but you keep believing in your coach and your teammates. Coach kept promising us we'd have a good season. And now, my senior year, what a great way to go out. You keep faith in your coach, faith in your team, things will work out."
Sophomore Forward Da'Shena Stevens
On St. John's success:
"I think it's very important, because we're right there. We're not worried about any other team besides our own. We've worked very hard to put ourselves in the position that we are."
On how the seniors have impacted her:
"It means a lot when you have people to look up too. They've been through seasons when they haven't won too many games. We can look up to them. They've been great on and off the court. They've been great helping me out and we are going to finish things strong with them and that's important."
Villanova Head Coach Harry Perretta
On playing against St. John's:
"We played against a very good team today, they have the two things that we cannot contend. One is their speed and the other thing is their athleticism and talent. They exploited our weaknesses and kept us out of sync. When they get out in the open floor it's very difficult for us to defend that."
