QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's sophomore center fielder Kristi Cady was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll as announced by the conference office on Monday.
This is the first time Cady has received BIG EAST Weekly honors in her collegiate career.
From March 8-14, the Red Storm played nine games in Arizona. Cady led the team with a .435 batting average (10-of-23), two home runs and seven RBI. Her17 total bases, .739 slugging percentage and .500 on-base percentage were also team bests during that stretch. The Hamilton, N.J., native also recorded two steals, 14 putouts and one outfield assist.
St. John's played four road games against top-10 opponents last week with two games at No. 2/2 Arizona and two games at No. 8/10 Arizona State.
Cady performed well in the games against UA and ASU, hitting .375 (3-of-8) with one RBI, one sac bunt and six putouts.
Against Northern Colorado in STJ's second game of the Wildcat Invitational on March 12, Cady hit her second home run of the season, a one-out solo shot to left center that gave STJ a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Cady had her best game on March 14 in the Red Storm's 4-3 win over Illinois-Chicago when she went 3-of-3 with a two-run home run to the top of the stands in Arizona's Rita Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium. She finished the game against UIC with a pair of runs scored, two RBI, a double off the wall in center field, one walk, one stolen base, two putouts and an outfield assist. Not documented in the stat sheet are the runs that Cady prevented during the week with her perfect throws from center field to the infield and home plate.
The Red Storm returns to action on Wednesday with its home opener against Fairfield at 3 p.m. at Red Storm Field.
