Karmas Finishes Third In Inaugural BIG EAST Home Run Derby

CLEARWATER, Fla. - Junior Paul Karmas finished third in the inaugural BIG EAST home run derby held at Bright House Field as part of the 2010 BIG EAST Tournament opening ceremonies. All eight teams represented in the 2010 BIG EAST Tournament had a participant in the contest.
The derby had two rounds and the top four players advanced to the second and final round. Contestants were allowed 10 swings per round and were awarded 100 points for each home run and 10 points for each fly ball that reached the outfield.
Karmas launched three home runs in the first round and added five fly balls to finish tied for third with 350 points and move into the second round. Jimmy Jacquot of Cincinnati (550 points), Mike Olt of Connecticut (420) and Cade Stallings of Louisville (350) also advanced to the final round.
With scores wiped clean in the second round of competition, Karmas blasted three more home runs and added six fly balls for a total of 360 points. Olt went on to win the inaugural home run derby, finishing the final round with 450 points.
