QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's student-athletes Amanda Pasciolla and Renee Cloutier were honored at graduation on May 16, as Pasciolla won the President's Gold Medal for the Peter J. Tobin College of Business and Cloutier won the Outstanding Student Achievement Medal.
Pasciolla, a four-year contributor for the women's soccer team, earned the prestigious medal for having earned a perfect 4.0 grade-point average while majoring in economics. During the 2009-10 academic year, Pasciolla was named an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American and garnered second-team National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-East Region Scholar honors.
Athletically, Pasciolla capped her senior campaign starting in all 21 games, scoring one goal and posting four assists en route to second team All-BIG EAST honors. Pasciolla scored the game-winning goal over then-No. 25 UConn on Sept. 24, leading STJ to only its third win in history over the Huskies. Her strong play in the midfield also led the Red Storm to its first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.
Cloutier, a four-year member of the women's golf team who earned a degree in speech pathology and audiology, received the Student Achievement Medal because she made an exceptional contribution to the extra-curricular life of St. John's University, as evidenced by a significant leadership role. She achieved a GPA of 3.86 and was recommended to the President of the University to be a recipient of the medal by a selection committee.
Cloutier was on the Dean's List each semester she attended St. John's, in addition to receiving the All-BIG EAST Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete Sports Excellence Award the summer of 2009. She participated in a host of community service and campus leadership activities during her St. John's career.
A 2009-10 All-BIG EAST Women's Golf Team honoree, Cloutier led the team with a 78.39 stroke average and tied for the team lead with four top-10 finishes this past year. The Niceville, Fla., native's best finish in 2009-10 was a second-place showing at the Sacred Heart Fall Classic (Oct. 18-19) when she led the Red Storm to a team victory.
Also honored at graduation were the student-athlete members of the prestigious President's Society, Cloutier, Nicole Pasciolla, Kelly McConnell and Gavin Buckley.
