CLARKSBURG, Ontario - St. John's men's golf alum Keegan Bradley had quite a weekend in Canada, carding a 66-61-70-65--262 (-23) to take second place Sunday in the Nationwide Tour's Ford Wayne Gretzky Classic Presented By Samsung.
The tournament, in its third year, started on July 8 with a 160-player field and concluded with the final round on Sunday. Each golfer played three rounds at The Georgian Bay Club and one round at the Raven Golf Club at Lora Bay.
Bradley, who starred for the Red Storm from 2004-08, finished just one stroke behind tournament winner Peter Tomasulo (24-under 261). Perhaps most importantly, Bradley banked $86,410.69 for his second-place performance, vaulting him up to 17th on the Nationwide Tour money list after entering the tournament in 95th. The top 25 players on the Nationwide Tour money list receive PGA Tour cards. Bradley has totaled $108,372 through 14 events in 2010.
Bradley had the third-best driving distance in the tournament with a 321.0-yard average and his 23 birdies tied for the third. His best round came in Friday's second round, when he shot an outstanding 10-under 61 with eight birdies and one eagle on The Georgian Bay Club's par 5, 13th hole.
Fellow St. John's alum Andrew Svoboda tied for 54th in the tournament at 8-under 277. Svoboda, an STJ standout from 1999-2003, saved his best round for last, shooting a 5-under 66 in the final round. He has totaled $40,634 through 14 events this year and ranks 71st on the Nationwide Tour money list.
