QUEENS, N.Y. - Red Storm senior forward Jen Leaverton was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday, during the last week of league awards. The Mansfield, Mass., native's spot on the conference award list is her second mention this season.
Leaverton continues to be the leading goal-scorer for the Red Storm, netting two on Friday against local-rival Syracuse in 2-0 victory that guaranteed St. John's a BIG EAST Championship berth. The senior has scored 10 goals this season, a career-best, upping her four-season total to 17. With a goal in the first 10 minutes of play on Friday to give St. John's the one-goal advantage, Leaverton now has six game-winners on the year, tied with Maegan Kelly of Marquette for the most game-winners in the BIG EAST.
The senior forward is sixth in the BIG EAST in goals (10) and goals per game (0.56), seventh in points (22) and points per game (1.22).
Leaverton will head into Thursday's BIG EAST first round match up with Seton Hall with 22 points for the season and 39 for her career. Last time the Red Storm visited South Orange, N.J., Leaverton also scored both goals, en route to a 2-1 victory over the Pirates. At Seton Hall in 2009, Leaverton once again scored two goals, helping St. John's to a 3-1 win. St. John's is 3-0 when the senior scores two goals in a match.
