QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's women's basketball junior guard Eugeneia McPherson was named the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday after posting up 20.5 points per game against two ranked opponents last week, including 23 points against top-ranked Baylor at the Maggie Dixon Classic.
The honor roll nod is a first-ever conference accolade for the North Babylon, N.Y., native and the first for St. John's this season.
Her game-high 23 points against No. 1 Baylor in the Maggie Dixon Classic came via 9-for-13 shooting and matched her career-high in outside shooting, going 4-for-5 from beyond the 3-point arc. It was her second 20-point game this season, fifth of her career. Against DePaul (Dec. 7), the junior guard led the team with 18 points and added five rebounds.
McPherson shot .500 from the floor (14-of-28) and 62.5 percent from 3-point range (5-for-8), both team highs for the week. She also shot 72.7 percent from the foul line (8-of-11). She has been the most consistent scorer for St. John's, averaging 16.8 points per game in the past five games.
She now leads the Red storm in scoring this season with 14.0 points per game and is No. 16 in the league. She is also fifth in the BIG EAST in minutes played.
McPherson and the Red Storm will be back in action this weekend, hosting the fourth annual St. John's-Chartwells Holiday Classic on Dec. 17-18. St. John's will play Prairie View A&M at 1 p.m. on Saturday, followed by Louisiana Tech vs. Memphis at 3 p.m. Sunday's doubleheader includes both the consolation and championship games starting at noon.
